| In the spring of 1963, Janice C. Beatley established permanent vegetation plots throughout the Nevada Test Site to monitor long-term ecological changes. At Wahmonie townsite, her purpose for plot 67 was to monitor the successional processes in the streets and avenues of the townsite. Beatley measured the cover of perennial vegetation in plot 67 in 1963 and 1974, thereby providing a quantitative record of change over a decade. As shown in this view, taken a year after the plots were established, vegetation in the abandoned streets was small-statured and very different from the surrounding undisturbed vegetation, shown on both the left background and to the right of the stake line.
