Phograph of Red Rock Canyon State Park -Stake 3399-may 21, 1978

All of the old ranch buildings are gone, and those that were in the center of the view have been replaced by modern structures associated with the state park Visitor’s Center. The cleared agricultural land is difficult to detect a half century later, and relatively large Yuccas appear throughout the valley. The main wash that crosses the foreground from right to left has widened and deepened. Floods have removed a significant amount of the flood plain, including the sites where two houses stood in the 1920s. Off-road vehicle activity upstream (see Dove Spring Canyon photographs), livestock grazing, and mining in the area may have increased runoff in the watershed. The knoll in the right foreground has been partially leveled, possibly for road-construction material. None of the plants in the foreground persist from the 1920s. In addition, power lines now cross the mesa top in the background. (Robert H. Webb)
