This match from the 1985 camera position shows little change in the vegetation of the foreground and midground. Many shrubs, particularly the short-lived Hymenoclea and intermediate-lived Ericameria, have died. Large Salazaria mexicana (bladderpod) remain in the gullies of the midground and at the base of the talus piles. Several new individuals have also become established to offset some of the losses between 1985 and 1998. (Dominic Oldershaw)
