| Most of the larger individuals -- particularly Larrea -- present in 1984 persisted to 1998. Many smaller plants have died, probably during the 1989 drought, which was very severe in the northern Mojave Desert. Plant transects indicate a large mortality of Hymenoclea salsola (cheesebush) and Achnotherum speciosum (desert needlegrass), which were the dominants at this site in 1984. (Dominic Oldershaw) | ||
