Kunze townsite was built in December 1905 but was abandoned in favor of the new Greenwater townsite in December. Automobiles provided passenger service to the town, although the miners typically rode horses to and from the mines and freight wagons brought water and supplies. These conveyances, combined with foot traffic, destroyed the vegetation and significantly compacted the soil. A number of buildings were constructed of varying degrees of permanence, ranging from tents to tents on wooden bases to wooden buildings with glass windows. These buildings likely were moved to nearby Greenwater by the end of 1906. (photographer unknown, courtesy of the Nevada Historical Society, CA 203).
