Photograph of Greenwater Townsite- Stake 3832-may, 1981
Robert H. Webb
The former main street of Greenwater has become an access road for tourists visiting the ghost town. The vegetation that has become established in the foreground is mostly Hymenoclea salsola (cheesebush) and Achnotherum speciosum (desert needlegrass); the dark shrub in the foreground is a seedling Larrea tridentata (creosote bush) that was one of the former dominants in the townsite. The biomass of herbaceous plants, mostly annuals, is high because of a series of wet years preceding this photograph. The metal bands in the foreground were hoops for the water kegs that were regularly delivered to the townsite. (Robert H. Webb)
