Arista, Nevada, was a short-lived town and millsite for low-grade gold mined from Bare Mountain. Frequently confused with nearby Carerra, an older town mostly removed, Arista was built in 1929 and was built well after the early waves of mining activity in the eastern Mojave Desert. This view, taken in 1960, shows the remains of the main mill structure. The foreground area, once used to load trucks, was bare and compacted. A single Larrea tridentata appears between two of the piers of what may have been a loading dock. (photographer unknown, courtesy of the Nevada Historical Society, Nye 639) |
