Computer programs were written to process the raw NCDC data of each station into a useful format. Additional programs were written to produce summaries of the primary climate data. The summary data for any of the 48 stations can be downloaded from this web site as standard text (ASCII) files.

The summary data generally consists of two main types: (1) the annual cycle of precipitation and temperature, i.e. average daily precipitation, maximum precipitation, and the average daily maximum and minimum temperature and extreme temperatures calculated for each calendar day for the period of record; and (2) total precipitation and average daily maximum and minimum temperature computed seasonally or by calendar year for the period of record of a particular station. The data are in units of degrees Fahrenheit and 0.01 in. In these calculations, traces of precipitation were ignored (set to 0) and a missing value code (-99) was entered if more than 10 percent of the observations in the accounting period were missing.
